That's how I felt too. I thought that I knew that the underground railway was not a literal one. Then I began reading this book and I swallowed the literal interpretation becasue I was aware that I was very ignorant about this particular part of history. I'm British and have not studies American history extensively, so I was easily taken in. I thknn that at very least there should have been an explanation at the very beginning that this is not historically accurate.
