well Jessica i have an awesome mermaid story idea you could use what would happen if there was a mermaid novel trilogy where the protagonist is a human male who discovers a mermaid civilization underwater and he meets and falls in love with the mermaid princess who he rescues from getting trapped and entangled in a fishnet and when he kissed her the human male gains the ability to breath underwater but when he becomes the first human to explore Aquatopia the mermaid city he becomes a target for the darker evil forces of the ocean such as sea hags and sea serpents and other monsters
