never liked this book, it makes latin america look like a cold dark dump. i live in peru

mmh I think this is more for colombian people, Marquez told us a story very near to the ones in the war rural context when the one thousand days war was happening, maybe if you whole life you live in a latin american city you won't get it, anyway don't read things that you don't enjoy.
I mean- you would think, but idk, I'm Colombian and even I wasn't able to engage with the book, I'm not saying it a bad book, I'm just saying i doesn't really catch your attention.
Agree with the "chore to finish" part.
