Steven Mclennan "and how spoiled brats grow up to be spoiled adults and how they act when they don't get their way."

Surely then this is exactly the type of story they SHOULD be reading? That way they get to see an archtype of people that the may not be used to and see how unappealing it is to see/hear people behave in this manner?

Martinigirl There are more appropriate books for that in their age group to learn that lesson. This is an adult book.

Martinigirl Just because they have "heard it before" or what you assume doesn't mean we should let them watch, read, hear, write and say it all the more. Lazy ass parenting.

Katya I am in 8th grade and we read more graphic books for school that deal with abuse, swearing, murder, suicide and worse. If anyone should be blamed, it's the schools, not the parents. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION BASED OFF OF PERSONAL EXPERIENCE.

Steven Mclennan Lazier parenting to simply "ban" them from reading something than to let them read it, then to have a discussion about the book afterward.

Rosie ^ What he said. Sheltering teenagers from difficult topics when they're old enough to deal with it maturely is not going to help any teenager.
