Megan Stroup Tristao Thanks, Diana. Not all of us live in the U.K. and/or like to spend more than 25 cents on writing utensils, but your enthusiasm for the subject is noted. Many others have already answered my question with helpful information.

Diana Oh, I didn't realise you hadn't figured it out! I thought you were just asking if we all had. But I'm not sure what being in the UK has to do with it. Waterman, Parker and Fisher are all American companies, Visconti is Italian, Schneider is German, and Faber I'm not sure about but I believe is Italian. They're all extremely well known pen manufacturers though (Faber maybe less so, but at least all the others).

Carol I guess that would be me! Thankfully, the author took pity on me...

LeAnne I haven't purchased nor used a "fountain pen" in 30+ years, since ballpoint pens became so inexpensive. I used to hate having to pump the little handle to suck up the ink because I worried that I would tip the ink bottle over. I haven't seen a bottle of ink in years either. I know about Waterman and Parker, but the Italian and German ones haven't come up in conversation. If he had used "Bic" or "Pentel", it would have jumped off the page at me.

Lisa I guess I'm an idiot! I've never heard of most of those.

Kathryn You'd have to be a complete jerk to call strangers names for asking questions.

message 7: by Kim (new)

Kim Grattage I don't use them, so why would I be classed as an idiot for not knowing the brands?

message 8: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Collins Gotta wonder about people like this, hey? I prefer to ignore them, not worth the time or effort.
Did you enjoy the Magpie Murders Amy?

message 9: by Susan (new)

Susan D'Entremont Well, gee. Even after someone spelled it out I still haven't heard of most of these companies.
