I can't even begin to agree with you that people in a modern-day-like society wouldn't call ratlike things "rat things" and wouldn't name a country a ludicrous yet somehow still boring name like that.

I think the irony is that this was written in 2017 and we now know at least one president of the United States who would have named a country something like that if they had the power to do so.
