Dana Crano I justified his reasons for including the railroad - the "underground railroad" story has been told more. It had to be a part of Whitehead's story to physically relocate the slaves and skip over 100 pages of the story we've all read countless times - wading through swamps, evading capture, etc. He created the fictional railroad to have more time to delve into the actual story.

Dana Crano A different title would have served this novel well.
