Bo God of Small Things is on my favorites list and the writing is also creative. I agree that Possession is a labor but very well written.

Jack Jamie, love the way you described what you are looking for in a book. I may not have been able to articulate it but it is exactly what I look for. I would say that I feel lucky to have stumbled upon and read many of these recommendations

Laura The only one on your great list I haven't read is THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS, so am putting that at the top of my reading list now. Thanks.

Patti Chen Who is the author of Possession? I see several in my bookstore; I like your descriptio and would like to read Possession! Thanks!

message 5: by Pam (new)

Pam It took me forever to get into Possession. I'm glad that I stuck with it. Truly one of the best books that I have ever read!

message 6: by Patti (new)

Patti Chen who's the author? Thx!

message 7: by Martha (new)

Martha A. S. Byatt is the author of Possession. It was made into a movie, also.

Patti Chen Thanks!!

Leslie Jamie - this is the only place where I have seen Stones of the River - a fantastic book - mentioned. I loved it, and highly recommend it. Ursula Hegi, the author, has written others with these same characters, though not a "series", they give an interesting alternative view. Nice to see it mentioned as I feel it's rather unknown.

Deleana You are the first person who has mentioned Stones of the River. I have never forgotten that book and I never will. Yes, it is nice to see it mentioned.

Liane Leeming Thank you so much for your contribution. It is so appreciated. I am going to look at Possession and Stones from the River as I love your other choices.

Constant Reader I would add Zadie Smith’s White Teeth, and A S Byatt’s The Children’s Book

Tyna Your comment has me looking up every single novel you mentioned. I may buy them all.
