Carolyn Susor Kimberly, I felt the same way you did when Pino watched Anna die. I felt like I was right there in the story with him watching. I wanted to run after him and comfort him. Then I realized I wasn't in the book. It was the weirdest feeling.

Michael Lella Hi Kimberly and Susan.
Your concerns and words touched my father 's soul.
At 91, he's still affected by the trauma of the War, but the outpouring of attention, adoration and concern has been very uplifting, but difficult as well. Not sure yet what kind of impact bringing all of this out again is going to have. So far , so good.

E Oh, praying for your family! I hope the impact brings him peace. Please tell him that by getting this story out, we will try not to allow the horrors of the Nazis to be repeated! His story will help educate generations of people who were not there to know.

Michael Lella Educating people , especially the younger generations, is the goal of the book. Unfortunately, at 91, my father is losing his faculties, and is becoming more reclusive all the time, . I have him living with me in the US for now, and he is very reluctant to face the public, somewhat ashamed of all the attention. When I get him out, he does very well and enjoys the adoration, the people and the positive feedback from the story. Unfortunately, these escapades into the public, depend on his mood at the time, and more and more, he doesn't want to get out anymore. He doesn't understand the magnitude of the popularity and the importance of his presence to the good folks who would simply want a greeting or an autograph.

Allison Michael, your father's exxemplary life moved our whole book club-- especially knowing he was a young Italian teenager and how profoundly it affected his whole life. Please convey to your father our immense gratitude for sharing his journey- it frees his soul and empowers others to share their story. Please bless your father for all the lives he saved. May his remaining years be filled with comfort and solace and peace.
