She didn't kill him, she scared him. She pulled the trigger but the shell was laying in the snow. And said, "Now you will be afraid of the dark for the rest of your life, too."
She didn't kill him - she scared him. Don't you think Maya would have been "caught" if she had actually murdered someone!
I was very confused about this part too. I had to read it three times before I finally understood that she pulled the trigger without a bullet in the gun.
“Kevin has time to understand that he’s dying. His brain is CONVINCED that it’s exploding in blood and snot. His heart stops beating.” One thinks he died. But then,..”[His heart] starts beating again..he’s screaming.” And then Maya takes out the cartridge and walks away. She scared him.
