Yes, the thought did cross my mind. But then wouldn't Carrie - who would have had so much at stake - have killed Lo, who was a journalist, obviously determined to pursue the truth at risk of her life, and the only person who was privy to the inside story?
Wanna know something else that crossed my mind about 40 pages before the ending? I thought maybe Carrie and Richard had planned this all along and the whole bit where Carrie convinced Lo to put on Anne's clothing would eventually lead to her arrest and she'd be committed for Anne's murder. Richard and Carrie would then be completely free of all accusations.
Had planned that some nosy journalist would pick up the story and start digging? Could be. Seems like Carrie was the mastermind just based on the Tiggers bounce note. Whether she or Richard had the idea to off Anne, she decided to off Richard way in advance of it happening. All of her crocodile tears and "But I know he loves me" b.s. was just for show. But then wouldn't she have found a way for Richard to handle the body and leave her "innocent" so that if they got caught she could claim she had no idea what Richard was planning? And it still doesn't answer why she let Lo go in the end... unless it's to corroborate her story in which she (Carrie) is the victim and she was just "defending herself" against Richard, who intended to kill her all along. Still, it was a huge risk for Carrie to take to leave a witness; might have been the preferable option, though, than leaving 3 dead bodies in her wake. Though it seems she got away with the crime quite comfortably.
