Thank you! I was totally confused. I started thinking that was Queenie in that opening scene, which made me wonder why the grandfather was there. I wish that would have been made more clear - maybe a chapter explaining Judy's story better. Loved the book, though!
This explanation about the twins was what I guessed also
If Judy was adopted as a surviving infant, and wasn't told about May until she was an adult and contacted Trent's grandfather -- how could she have been in the portrait/photograph?? I am confused.
Do you mean the photo of the four sisters? They were adults. They reconnected as adults, after all were married with families.

You're not the only one that was confused Lisa. I had to come here to figure it out. I could not figure out how Judy was a sister. Arggg!
