This book piqued my interest and I wanted to read more about his early career. I Googled him and several articles popped up about his Bar Mitzvah and his mother's conversion (from interviews with Noah, including one on NPR).
After seeing your question, I went and looked for the info as well. I want to say that he commented about this in that his mother's love had always been Jesus and so after reading the bible over and over, she searched it out in Hebrew, and that led her to convert. I didn't find much more than that.
Maybe he didn't feel it was necessary to include given the amount of content he already needed to include. It could have been an editorial decision, his or someone else's.
I love his appreciation for her. I admire her for being able to do what she did. What a brave, brave woman.
