The problem though is it never "proceeds" anywhere.
i'm a fan of challenging books. We're not seeking something that's easy to digest, we're wondering if there is a payoff that makes it worth it, or it it just ambiguity for ambiguity's sake.
I've read challenging sci-fi...this is not it.
