I agree. I just finished the book and found I was skimming it to get to the end. I didn't like the main character at all. She was not a likeable person and I found her actions and inner dialogue to be totally unrealistic, as if the author was an amateur writer. I had hoped I would like it so I could try her other book - In the Dark, Dark Woods, but now I'm thinking I'll pass.

I too, viewed the writing as amateurish, but more importantly for me was that much of the diologue (internal and external) and events were unnatural and forced. This sort of unnatural "telling" encourages skimming, So, I skimmed some parts also. But I did finish the book. I struggled to finish. Because, in addition to the unnaturalness and my tiredness with the main character's angry "without-a-cause" temperament, I questioned the pluck of her botfriend and ex's supported of her immature way of being. Therefore, similar to your sentiments about ["pass"ing] on the author's additional works--I'll pass unless solid recomendations are given on future works by a healthy sample of readers.
I got tired of hearing about her heart pounding. Every thing over and over caused her heart to immediately pound in her chest. Too much!
