Rick Bavera I just finished reading this book. My father's side of my family came from Italy, northern Italy in fact. Many of the places mentioned in the book are in the area where my family would have lived (example: my grandfather was from the shores of Lake Como).
I knew little about events in Italy during World War ll--this book has added some to my knowledge and context of that time period, and what some of my distant relatives would have experienced.
Michael Lella: if you read this, please extend to your father my amazement at his story.

Please understand that there is more fiction than truth in this book. The author initially publicized the book as 90% true and 10% fictional. Eventually he admitted that it was more fictional than true. Some of the places described were not even there during the war. A number of actions ascribed to the protagonists were invented, or performed by other people. Other actions were made up.
