I absoloutely dislike Helene too!
Okay I get that the whole best friend thing but in the end Helene was written to be a someone much better suited for Elias. Laia is obviously not what he needs, their isn't really any connection between the character of her and Elias. Plus according to the Augurs Elias will end up killing Laia,.
