That guy is Markus Zusak. :P The point of the whole book was to teach people to reach out and help each other, so, Markus Zusak organized the whole book because that's what authors do. I think it's a rather clever ending! :)
Yeah, that's what I got from it....he totally described himself and he had that folder piled together of details and everything that had happened. So it was sort of a book manuscript. So that's why he says "I am the message" instead of the messenger.

Yes, he even says how he should start with the "gunman being useless during the bank robbery" or something, and the very first line of the book is "The gunman was useless". Ed also says how "he's the man who wrote all of this, and he's the one that will get all the credit, not me" which means that the author is the one who created and solved everything, not Ed, and of course, the author is credited for his novel! Extremely clever, and one of the biggest 4th wall breaks.
