It was jarring and laborious at first, but after about 80 pages, I felt that the form was being used to do some interesting things. Instead of some cheeky indulgence on behalf of the author, I thought it was actually a useful way of exploring key themes of the book and allow for vignettes to both contribute to the whole narrative and stand alone like tiny short stories.
