Ann Dzuik Maybe it's just me, but I avoid British writers (this one is actually Australian, but close!) because they tend to overwrite. Forgive the generalization, and again, just my opinion, but they d-r-a-g the story out until you are ready to burn the book! And having the right narrator does make a difference. Some audio books narrators have been so annoying that I don't finish the book!

message 2: by Emma (new)

Emma Bender I listened on Audio too and it is possibly the worst book that i have stuck to all the way through as I really thought something better was coming...

message 3: by Richelle (new)

Richelle Gernes I am currently listening to the audio version and everytime she does Vid's I want to chop my ears off... SO BAD!!!

message 4: by P. (new)

P. So TRUE! I listened to the audiobook for 20 minutes and I just couldn't stand it anymore. The absolute worst. I'd rather have listened to frogs croak for hours.

message 5: by B (new)

B Janie I agree, agree, agree!! I was getting so annoyed hearing about "the day of the barbecue". And then there was nothing!! That was all the book had to offer. It was disappointing.

message 6: by Leane (new)

Leane Oh good! I thought this one just me. I'm listening to the audio and I cannot stand the reader's voice.

message 7: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Taylor I think it took me about twenty times of hearing 'The Day of the BBQ' and thinking YAY FINALLY we find out! To realize it was going to happen back and forth the entire time. Gahhhhhhh!

message 8: by Marjorie (new)

Marjorie Freedman So glad I'm reading these comments because I can't hang with this boo, even though I'm only 15 minutes into the audio. Life is short and there are many other great books to read (listen to). I'm going to abandon this one and not look back.

message 9: by Joni (new)

Joni Gray I thought the reader was excellent, but I kept thinking I had missed something in the early part of the book, something about the barbecue...

message 10: by Michelle (new)

Michelle I agree, I did finish the book but, I felt that much of what was written could probably been left out, way too long. Her books are fun, she is good at character portrayal but, the endings, take way too long to get to, I typically do not enjoy reading books over say 400 pages, rarely does it take this long to get to the point.

message 11: by AK (new)

AK I'm cracking up. My mom had to take a break from this because of "The Day of the Barbecue". I stuck it out, but I had to push through the middle.

message 12: by Traci (new)

Traci I gave up too. Right now I don't care what happened at the BBQ.

message 13: by Jessica (new)

Jessica I just finished the audio version also! I almost gave up but I felt like I invested so much time!!

message 14: by Mika (new)

Mika hahahaha! exactly how i feel about this book

message 15: by Jessica (JT) (new)

Jessica (JT) I'm on disc 10 and I feel like I'm going insane! I'm so close to the end so I feel like I need to finish it, but IDK if I can and keep my sanity.

message 16: by Paige (new)

Paige I loved this book so much, but the downfall was listening to the audio version. That woman's voice was ear piercing, especially when she was yelling as Holly.

message 17: by Eva (new)

Eva i'm 2:40 in the audiobook, and it's just sooo blah.
and it's the same narrator as the husband's secret and i enjoyed that a lot (but i'd already read the book)

message 18: by Cindi (new)

Cindi I'm listening to the audio as well, and the narrator doesn't bother me too much - except when she says 'no' - but I did speed up the playback to 1.4x. Vid is annoying. The repetition is annoying as well, but that seems to be a 'thing' for the author? I do want to grab a print copy & skip ahead to the end to see what happened.

message 19: by Cat (new)

Cat Pick The reader DRIVES ME CRAZY. Gotta abandon this one. 😅

message 20: by Lisa (new)

Lisa hahaha! It's amazing because I LOVED the build-up. I loved "the day of the BBQ." I enjoyed figuring out what the heck could have happened to cause all of this. I liked the characters and the story. But I certainly get how you all could have been so frustrated, hahaha! I'm so glad you gave full vent to your feelings and found a camaraderie in it. Such fun to read! =D

message 21: by Shruti (new)

Shruti hahahaha LOL

message 22: by Sue (new)

Sue OMG! So funny! I thought the same thing as I was listening to it. The reader drove me nuts but I did stick it out to the end. This story could have been told in a much shorter time. Too long and truthfully I didn't like any of the characters.

message 23: by Teresa (new)

Teresa SAME! Every time she screams "NAAAAOOOOOOO" in my ears I cringe. I can't wait for this to be over but I'm too far in to stop. Only 7 more out of 89 chapters to go...
