Paul, I don't believe that he does. Ray says just before that he might have committed suicide in the burrow at the 'RingFort', but that he didn't want to take ONEEYE along with--so i believe he lets him out before going over the cliff. I'm still struggling with what the dog's ending was beyond that, though
The dog did not die. Ray had said the reason he didn't bury them both in the badger hole was that One Eye didn't belong to him; he belongs to the dirt and fields and hills etc. Which is why he left him on the clifftop when he drove his car into the ocean.
