I loved the Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. Did you know they made a play based on the book? I saw it recently in Dallas.
Of course, it was a challenge to represent an autistic boy in a play. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it either. The reviews have been great but rarely do you read a book and then see the movie (or in this case a play) and think that was great. I was more interested in how they would choose to relate the internal struggles of such a boy. It was very innovative from that respect. As for the story, you can't do better than Mark's book.
I think I heard that it was pretty good, but honestly don't remember who told me that. My wife and I are both involved in community theater in Shreveport and are talking with some other local actors/directors about going over to D to "Something Rotten." Have you seen it, and is it good?
I have not seen it yet. I have tickets for June 18. I am looking forward to it. If you enjoy Shakespearean comedies, you might enjoy 2 books by Christopher Moore: Fool and The Serpent of Venice or even Sacre Blue quest to unravel the mystery behind the supposed suicide of Vincent van Gogh. But my absolute favorite of his is not a historical fiction. It is Fluke and is laugh out loud funny.
Debra, we are in D and going to see it tonight with two other couples. I think it will be very good!
Love Ivan Doig! Had not read his fiction before, but will now. Please read his lovely “This House of Sky”.
Roxanne, I HAVE read it. There's nothing that he's written that I haven't liked. Wonderful insight into the human condition expressed with some of the most wonderful prose. I think there are only three of his books that I have not yet read. I recently began a new, albeit late, career teaching high school English and Drama, so trying to stay one step ahead of the urchins keeps me from reading as much as I am used to, but soon, perhaps....
