I listened to this instead of reading it so details are more fuzzy than if I had read the book, but I think she thought that he would die right away, and she had just picked the four days out of the air to stay in Thailand so that she could set up her worried wife routine in front of the hotel staff and to create a call trail of how she tried to contact Jack and their friends. She was surprised to find out that he didn't die from the pills.
