Stephanie Patti, what is the disgusting agenda you are talking about?

message 2: by Vicki (new)

Vicki Yes, I'd like to know the answer to that question too, Stephanie. I'm lost here. I thought the ending was brilliant!!

message 3: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I have no doubt it is something ridiculous.

message 4: by Fanny (new)

Fanny hey

message 5: by Peggy (new)

Peggy I agree - it was something totally ridiculous and didn't deserve all the hype. I was disgusted too.

message 6: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Peggy, what is the disgusting agenda that you and Patti are in on that the rest of are not?

message 7: by Denise (new)

Denise I agree with Patti if she meant the ending is disgusting, The end seriously had me saying WTF just happened here? It was so ridiculous and far fetched!

message 8: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I am asking about the:

"Sooooo tired of people pushing an agenda with the ending the author chose. Actually it's disgusting."

I would like to know what AGENDA the OP is referring to. It doesn't matter if you liked the ending but the word agenda has a specific meaning and it does not mean "I hated the book I found it disgusting"

The word Agenda has these defintions.

1. A list of items to be discussed at a formal meeting.
2. A plan of things to be done or problems to be addressed.
3.The underlying intentions or motives of a particular person or group.

So, what I am asking, and no one is answering, is what "agenda" people are pushing with the ending.

Ridiculous, far fetched, disgusting, Just plain hated it are all good and fine. None of them mean that their was an agenda.

message 9: by Pam (new)

Pam It means she's a homophobe.

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie I want her to say what she means because as of now she is being ambivalent, and it is irritating me. If in fact, she is homophobic, she should stop reading psychological thrillers all together, as she has a much bigger task to tackle, and start informing herself on the human experience. I can give her some recommendations to get her started if asked.

message 11: by Summer (new)

Summer Stephanie, I can't believe you aren't aware of the homosexual agenda to take over girls' bodies and steal their husbands. It was number three on the list.

message 12: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Summer, please tell Patti to present said list at her first homophobe anonymous meeting. She might just find the love and connection she is missing in her life there. You really never know.

message 13: by Barb (new)

Barb LOL.. at first I was puzzled about the agenda of the lucid dreamers or out of body experience!
That part didn't faze me in the least so it took me a minute to realize THAT' was what she found objectionable.
duh, just an old tired homophobe.

message 14: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Hey Barb! Still waiting for Patti to show her face to this party and chat with me about disgusting agendas. You seem like a lot of fun though =).

That is what my first thought was too.. some secret agenda regarding lucid dreaming I did not know about because the media has been too fake lately. I would have to agree with you though. She was just being vague and was talking about a (non-agenda) whole section of the population.

message 15: by Stephie (new)

Stephie Clearly she is homophobic

message 16: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie Stephie, can I call you Steph.. My horrific family calls me Stephie and it makes me anxious. Back to the point, I think you are on point here.

message 17: by Joe (new)

Joe This book certainly doesn't make us gay men look good! Even so I'll give the author the benefit of the doubt and say that wasn't her intention

message 18: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Steis Sorry I'm late to this discussion. At first I liked this comment because I agreed with the first half of what the OP said. I didn't like this book simply because I thought the ending was super far fetched/out of left field BUT then I realized what she was implying with her second comment and I couldn't disagree more!! It's okay not to like the ending of this book because of the supernatural aspect, BUT OMG it is absolutely not okay to dislike it because you're homophobic!?

message 19: by Ann (new)

Ann Informative thread. Thanks, all.

message 20: by Sarah (new)

Sarah I'm late for this but oh well ;p Maybe Patti was implying the author was being homophobic and even transphobic herself. She left it vague so we can't know.
I was angry at the ending because I felt cheated but after a few minutes I actually enjoyed it. It was different and bold and really made me feel, which is nice to get from a book from time to time.

However I did wonder if maybe it could give a harmful representation of gay and trans people. I like to believe good in people and honestly doubt that was the author's agenda. I think it was just a twist. This is what Joe alludes to as well. What I'm wondering is, why should it be interpreted as 'making gay men look bad'? it's common knowledge that we can't make generalities so I don't understand why one gay character being bad means the author thinks all gay people are bad. Rob was a sociopath or something and I think that's all the author had in mind ;)
