I noticed this too!! I made a compilation of all the covers and sent it in am email to my mom, and we made a game out of finding "girl" titles. It was at least 20 recent releases, most of which were mystery/thrillers!
(She said it's because it's scary to be a girl XD)

Haha! I did that too with my sister. We found 30!

How ridiculous!

It's not until the end of the book that you find out it actually is a "girl" before. Not referring to the women in the book, it's referring to the little girl. One of the last lines in the book is about the girl.
