Wow. Thank you so much for the detailed answer. I really appreciate it. :)
I have to say that the ending of the original blew me away BECAUSE of the ambiguity. There is simply no way to know the truth, and that to me is the point. Interesting that Fowles updated the ending just as Dickens did with GE.
And it is interesting that Fowles mentions Great Expectations in his intro to the revised edition.
