Barbara Schultz I hated "Gone Girl" :( ...so putting "girl" in the title is a negative for me. However, I believe using 'girl" is this title is good!

Karen Leslie, you are so right! The name of the "trend" is patriarchy and it's been the framework for centuries past and hopefully not one century more. My friends and I get called "girl" and "girls" all the time and we're in our 60s. It just as demeaning as "Lady" and "Ladies". Yuk.

J It's not until the end of the book that you find out it actually is a "girl" before. Not referring to the women in the book, it's referring to the little girl. One of the last lines in the book is about the girl.

Marie-Claude Dufour Interesting. In French the original title was preserved, for the book you speak of: L'homme qui n'aimait pas les femmes.
