The language may reflect the reality of his upbringing accurately, but I do agree that the book would have been successful without the profanities.
I haven't really noticed any profanities I must say. No worse than any of the American movies I've watched recently.
I wouldn't consider profanity-laced mainstream movies appropriate for a church library either. If you can't maintain a high standard of decency in a church then where can you?
I understood the question to mean that the book will not be read aloud in the church but would be provided as a source for loan through the church library. Some churches are quite accomodating with such services in order to appeal to broader member base.
My question is why you would give word that you consider "bad" so much power. This is fabulous, uplifting book. Any mature reader can certainly read this along with the "bad" words and put them in context.
