Sorry, The Blade Itself is Abercrombie not Fitzgerald, mixing my authors up.
Also, now after reading the first half of the next book I would definitely not recommend the series for anyone but adults. The next installment cranks up the violence and romance (sex) to a level where I do not think it appropriate for a 12 year old, however, it is nothing an adult cannot handle.
