Julia I'm such a fan of the movie, and reading the book now. I have a great appreciation for the way they adapted it, they understood that our hearts were with the dogs and did not bother hopping around to various human's perspectives. I would honestly recommend the film over the book at this point. Animation and film as a medium has a way of forcing you to see cruelty, were as when reading, it can be easy to allow your brain to spare itself from looking too deeply. I felt the same way about the watership down film and book. The destruction of the warren was terrible in the book, but actually being so close to the rabbits as the were buried alive in the film is unforgettably terrorizing to the viewer.
