Vanessa I know, right? It's absolutely petty. A "scam artist" for publishing works made of his own volition, charging twenty-ish bucks each for two books released four years apart that provide high quality entertainment and can be read an unlimited number of times. All of this, while also providing other forms of entertainment and joy for thousands of people in the interim for the next installment which, like all the others, will not be forced upon anyone that does not wish to purchase.

Again, forty or fifty bucks or so total for the main books if one bought hard cover at release for unlimited use, even to lend and share with friends and family. Anyone gone to the movies lately? The average person probably shells out about forty bucks to see a new movie with one friend (again, money that s/he :chose: to spend) once a snack or two is likely purchased. For what? A couple hours of screen time...:once:.

...A scam artist for sharing his work for a marginal cost and then enjoying the reception and living his life after having doors open up for him after years of hard work. FOR SHAME. And after "promising" us they'd be released a year apart, too, before he had his entire life change beyond his imagination. After all, we did spend that forty bucks he got a fraction of *cough*of our own choosing*cough* in the last ten years. Our butts...they huuurt...

Mind-blowingly short-sighted, much of the vitriol here. Fine. Don't buy it, don't read it, stop waiting, complain. If he releases it early for the sake of early and it sucks, you'll probably call him a "sellout". Personally, I'll be reading other work and getting unexpected joy from that, and then I'll be rereading Rothfuss' works with excitement (again!) and enjoying the third installment in his trilogy, which will be done and not half-baked like other works dished out by force of a deadline for the sake of "promises" and demands. When I bought his works, I did so knowing fully well that I was buying an unfinished piece and most definitely that I wasn't buying shares in, and rights over his life decisions, just like with any other piece of art I buy off the shelf.

The likes of da Vinci, Tolkien, classic pianists, Crichton, the Mesopotamians, and scientists would roll and writhe in their respective graves and ashes if they read all of these comments.

Take your time, Mr. Rothfuss. I will be drinking on the quietest part of the balcony of the Eolian.

Connor I can understand why you defend it, but are you really unable to understand and sympathize with why people are pissed?

Zakery Veal Six years. Six. Years. I'm twenty. That's just above a third of my life waiting for this book. Fuxk you.

Ketutar Jensen 1) He promised. He hasn't kept his promise. People have right to be angry and vent that anger in any way they choose.
2) he's a professional writer. He knows how to write. He know very well how to write. He had a life and other interests already when he wrote the first two books. Took about 4 years per book. There is no reason for him to not write the next book in 4 years. It's been 9.
