I can't believe you said this about the mascara!!! That really bothered me. I have never, ever heard of someone asking to borrow mascara. There's a risk of eye infection and it's just such an intimate item to borrow.
I didn't think about it before but you're so right!! Mascara is the LAST thing (makeup-wise) that I would borrow from a stranger!
YES! I totally thought that about the mascara too! Why not just call the cruise director lady who said they would provide anything she needed?
She did mention sanitizing it lol. But I get it. On a boat like that I'm sure I would have thought of a makeup artist on board first.
I completely agree! I'd never borrow or loan mascara to anyone and I thought it was stupid that she didn't call the cruise staff to get her mascara. The author should of thought of something else for Lo to borrow.
Really? Who would go knocking on a stranger's door looking to 'borrow' mascara. Like it was some life or death situation. To me that jumped the shark.
I agree she was dumb, irritating and obnoxious. I saw why the author wanted to create an unreliable witness so that we would doubt the veracity of her story, but felt that she could have done it in a more relatable fashion. However, I did like the storyline and the mystery and felt that she redeemed herself there.
Never would have finished it if it weren't a book club selection. And who goes on a cruise and takes a copy of The Bell Jar and Winnie the Pooh - seriously?? Just awful.
And she didn't borrow mascara once, but borrowed it twice!! After 'losing' the first one she borrowed another from Chloe - OMG, this book was terrible!!
Book club selection for me as well so forced myself to finish it. All of us agreed that we never had nor ever would search out and wear a stranger’s mascara. So silly that it was so important to her.
