I totally agree. why make that part up? and it made me doubt the accuracy of the rest of the story!
The book is fiction, it should not be read to learn accurate history. The political structures described in North Carolina and South Carolina are not historical fact either. Speculative fiction illustrates ideas by asking 'what if...?'
Very little. Worst interview ever. We actually paid to see it and we walked out (as many people did.) He spoke about shallow inconsequential topics. Mentioned little about the book. More about his orange leather pants. He lives kind of a shut in life in NYC and buys leather pants on line. True story. I gleaned nothing of his insight on the book. Very disappointing evening.
