Hi - thanks for the question - apologies for the delay in my reply - I am travelling at the moment with an erratic signal! The short answer is that many years ago I heard British broadcaster and writer Melvin Bragg remark that he had found it impossible to write a whodunit, and therefore how much he admired Agatha Christie, despite her critics. This stuck in my mind and eventually I had the opportunity to write some fiction, and decided to have a go myself. I tried to come up with a leading character who was different to those in 'existence' - Morse, Rebus, Wexford etc - and gave him an environment and interests I knew something about. As for the series - I have written across several genres - but this was the one which seemed to generate 'popular requests' for more - thus I am presently working on number 8!
