Sebastian--I suspected that even though I didn't (and don't think I will) finish the book. If you have to get as far as halfway through a 300-plus page book before it gets interesting, I would say the author failed in her mission. Life's too short; know what I mean?
Well if reading 199 pages of a mother and son trapped in a room is too much for you, you are very hard to please.
