Marylou Ambrose What was the message?

Maggie Donofrio He reveals he put a secret message in the book for his fans to find and hopes his agent wouldn’t notice. If you flip back to the first 14 chapters of Beautiful Ugly and read the first word of each chapter, the message is: “If you are reading this, I am trapped on the island. Please help me.”

Joan Interesting! I didn't think about that!

message 4: by Vicki Renee (new)

Vicki Renee Nah, that doesn't make sense, Maggie! The FIRST word of each chapter? You can't start a sentence with the word "Are" or "Am" or "Me."

Maggie Donofrio Hi Vicki! It’s a bit tedious, but here are the first sentences from the first 14 chapters. I hope this addresses your concerns about starting a sentence with are, am, and me.

If all we need is love, why do we always want more?

You look bloody terrible.

Are there any benefits to losing it all?

Reading people used to be something I was good at, but lately I don’t trust my own judgment.

This is not a great start.

I wander through the woods and start to question what I am doing here.

Am I really looking at human bones?

Trapped. That’s what I am.

On the envelope, I scribble my agent’s name and her office address.

The Stumble Inn looks inviting, and I wouldn’t say no to a drink before the long walk back.

Island life is stranger than I imagined.

“Please help yourself to more if you’d like some?” Midge offers.

“Help can be hard to ask for,” the woman I’ve come to see says.

“Me and you need to go back to the cabin right now,” Sandy says.

Are there any benefits to losing it all?”

Maggie Donofrio Oops - apologies for the additional “are there any benefits to losing it all” at the bottom. Copy/paste error on my part!
