Roman Stadtler Because it's a character trait, a little detail about her (or her parents, if they used the mispronunciation). Just go with it. My last name is German, but it hasn't been pronounced the German way for generations, if ever, in America.

Timothy Howell I see many, many names in the real world that are not pronounced the way they are spelled. People choose how to pronounce their own name. It is the author's prerogative to do just this. As Roman stated, it is her character. Just because her parents gave her that name, doesn't mean she has any ties to the ethnicity of it.
