Betsy Zadorozny This is the best explanation so far - I think you are right.
Thanks for your thoughts. I would like a sequel - with Patrick and Jenna and Ray and Mags.....not sure what to do with Kate.

Rose McClelland Thank you :) Yes, a sequel would be great :)

message 3: by Julie (new)

Julie I agree with your explanation. The lack of a body...

message 4: by Beth (new)

Beth Betsy I agree with you....a sequel, no Kate.

message 5: by Diane (new)

Diane DeMasi Well, I think Ian died. I came to that conclusion because the characters of Ray and Jenna are in present tense (they are still here), versus Ian who's voice is in past tense (he's a goner). Just my thought, but I agree with Tracey's answer below in regards to what the last line means.

message 6: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I think the author has left it to the individual reader to decide what that means - it could be interpreted either way. I agree, it isn't a solid conclusion!

Cheri Juhasz I just figured the author left us with a cliffhanger and it was up to the reader to wonder but after seeing your comment about "then it was dark", I agree with you. Now I think he wasn't dead and he killed her.

Rose McClelland Thanks for that Cheri :) Actually I have changed my mind since I last wrote that comment 2 years ago. I have also read a blog post by the author Clare MacIntosh, where she explains what she meant by the cliffhanger. The link is here: https://claremackintosh.com/ilygending/

Elizabeth Thank you so much for sharing this link, Rose!

message 10: by Jan (new)

Jan Thanks Rose McClelland for the link. I also thought Ian had to be dead because no one could survive a fall of 200 feet to jagged rocks and the ocean (turns out the author says exactly what I thought). I felt it was a cheap ending, and I think the author could have made it a little clearer by stating that Jenna knew that no one was coming after her again. But, I guess the author couldn't resist leaving the reader with a bit of uncertainty. Too bad, because the book deserves better.

Sanna ☆ I did understand the end as the writer explained it in the link that has been shared above. But it was interesting to read her explanation now that I read Rose McClelland's first thoughts that I found a little bit far out from my own, but it's interesting to read how other comprehend the same text.
