In a literal sense it a method of hunting, but in a metaphorical sense, it's sposed to be ironic, given that in a garden plants grow and are brought to life but this particular garden brings death. It's used in Benjy's story because when the dogs are from it only then was he allowed to live a free being but the oppressors were given death
