I LOVED foundation and earth. It wrapped up the foundation and robot universes in one neat little bow. It's beautiful. Stopping at just Second foundation, and then going back in time to Prelude to foundation seems rather odd, you need to finish the story first!! Are you recommending he not find out what the whole thing was about after all that?
My recommendation is to skip the prequels. Finish the original 5 novels in the correct timeliness first.
