Abigail was an amazing woman. Without her fortitude and bravery and courage, John wouldn't have been the man that he was. He was lost without her. I have a First Lady picture book series in mind for the little ones. I've hired an illustrator for Martha Washington when she is in NYC. For the life of me, I don't know what to do about Abigail since she spent so little time in Washington. All I can think of is her hanging clothes. Any suggestions?
She was a homemaker and a very independent thinker. I love the concept of a picture book. I will definitely buy for my great nieces and a 5 year old neighbor. I always knew more about our founding fathers than what was written in history books because I read outside of required reading even in lower grades. Good luck with the book.
Thanks! It'll be, I would say, about a year before the first one is published. It sounds like we have an awful lot in common!
I think so too. I was a single Mom and every summer I took my two sons on an historical vacation, 2 or 3 weeks depending on where we were going. I planned the trips for about a year and loved it when we were going somewhere they performed outdoor plays. I'm from Kentucky and we saw three plays there along with Churchill Downs for horse racing. I have scrapped books for both sons and can go back and relive the vacations along with the videos I have. They excelled in American history and school friends always like to study and work on special projects with them. It was like living history.
Whenever we'd take a family vacation and even now when it's just my husband and I, we go to historical sites. We live in northern MN so we're pretty far from most historical sites.
My next FL mystery incorporates T Roosevelt and the national parks. Now, if only the publisher would let me know when it'll be ready...!
We do have a lot in common. I can hardly wait for your next book. We've live in Texas a long time but l left and moved to Hawaii for 9 years from here and lived in Hawaii where my sons were born. I loved Hawaiian history and even though my sons were young I took them to all the places there before we moved to Texas. I worked at a bank there and when I found out my most of my local co-workers had not visited any of the historic places within walking distance of the bank, I conducted a tour once a month during lunch time to acquaint them with their home state. It was fun.
Have you visited Monticello? This is my favorite President's home. Thomas Jefferson was brilliant and so far ahead of his time with his inventions. Did you eat at Michie Tavern on the way up or down when you were there. I love the tavern for its place in history and of course the food. Patrick Henry's Dad was a partner in the ownership of the tavern. The Hermitage in Nashville. is my next favorite. I have always felt so much compassion for Rachel Jackson, she was such a gracious lady and did not deserve the names she was called through no fault of her own.
