I'm still wrestling with whether to plot everything out or write freely with whatever comes. Both cases seem to get me stuck. In the end climbing out of your hole depends on weighing tension and stakes. If that scene moves the story along ... if it's too soon or too late for that scene ... if it is engaging enough such as if the characters have a lot to lose or not.
You should look forward to deleting material! you are cutting the stuff that will make your book worse :) (that's one way to encourage yourself to see the benefits)
