Oh really? Marrying a foreigner is one sign that one is 'close minded?" Who knew!
Why should marrying a foreigner be a problem? I married a foreigner--and American--and he is one of the best men I have met in my entire life. Could you expand a bit on your opinion?
I think she was open minded to have married a foreigner. Sadly, though, being so sweet and naive about her husband's religion and family culture is what got her into trouble. But kudos to her for getting out of that terrible situation! Betty was a true feminist and American who did not believe that women and children were to tolerate abuse!!!
I’m 9 years too late but the people responding to these comments clearly aren’t brilliant at reading comprehension and I had to step in or it would nag at my brain haha. It’s clear OP means that she couldn’t believe Betty married a foreigner because OP believes Betty came across as close minded. Not because OP themselves think dating a foreigner is a negative thing. (Emily got it though, congratulations on being the only one haha)
