totally agree
Even if it was fanfiction, who cares? Every Disney retelling is literally fanfiction. In fact the Disney stories are fanfiction of the old fables and so on. Much of Arthurian Lore was added onto over the centuries (ie fanfiction) and even great works we study in classes as classes are Bible fanfic. Fanfiction isn't bad. :D
Agreed-I think fanfiction is perfectly fine as long as you credit the source (which the author does in Fangirl); I just think it's odd avid readers are so unwilling to admit that it is when Rowell has no issue owning it.
Eh there's too many people who look down on fanfiction but like a lot of very popular recent authors started their series as fanfic that they then modified and published so I'm hoping there will be a shift in opinion of fanfic soon.
Agreed! They're separate stories. Just because they share similar themes, doesn't mean they're comparable in that way.
