But caria died during the day became a "nightwalker" we were not told the exact circumstances behind this I understand she was possessed also still a bit confused on this count surely she didn't take dying during the day lightly even if she didn't know she would loose her magic thus dead?

At the end of book one (Sunset), Eric has merely (view spoiler)[made Keria a nightlord (nightlady?), alive and well. She's drained of a lot of blood and Eric has put a lot of his own into her. She's sick, certainly, but also pretty solidly on her way to being a full-blown vampire. (hide spoiler)]

Now, in book two (Shadows), Eric (view spoiler)[ wakes up after years of post-trauma recovery--not all of which has really been helping him to recover; some aspects of it actually made it harder to get better! He doesn't know what's happened to Keria.
The reason Keria can no longer use magic is for the same reason she keeps sending awful things to bother Eric: It's not Keria. Oh, it's Keria's body, yes, but the magicians in Vathula (especially Rakal, the demon-summoning specialist) are riding herd on her for the Prince of Byrne ( (hide spoiler)] the mastermind Behind It All).
Keria (view spoiler)[ is suppressed, imprisoned in her body, while a demonic entity (summoned and managed by Rakal) is the consciousness in control. THAT entity can't go out in the sunlight, so Keria, naturally, doesn't go out during the day. Instead, it pretends that she's dead-dead so it has an excuse. And, of course, the Thing inhabiting her body doesn't have access to her training and powers as a magician, so the excuse it uses is that she's lost her ability when she became a nightlady... and is therefore angry with Eric, which provides a handy excuse for sending nasty thing after him... and, incidentally, a reason Bob needs to be confined; he wouldn't take it well to have to follow commands to kill the guy who can crush his heart on whim. Plus, if Bob ever found out about the demonic possession (hide spoiler)]--well, who knows what an elf will do?

Eric, of course, has to figure out all of this. That's one of the problems with a first-person viewpoint; the narrator (at least, in this case) is sometimes ignorant or foolish.
We won't go into whether or not he's lying, either to his diary or just to himself.

Ahhh thank you very much! Explained alot. Man you are an awesome author I must say where others might throw a book together you create a tapestry I must say I read mostly sci-fi (space books military space opera) etc will be looking forward to watching a growing legend in fantasy in the making.
