Vicki I have to agree with you Trevor, I haven't really warmed to Renna either. I get she had a hard life but instead of having compassion for others weaker than her she does tend to bully thrm. I wish she was a little softer, not much, just a little :-)

Peter Renna is dealing in the spotlight with the same magic addiction issues Arlen dealt with off the page in the years between his first warding himself and his meeting Leesha and Rojer. She is also a recovering victim who spent her life living in terror and is trying to become someone not easily victimized again. Despite all this, she has been intensely loyal to Arlen and the people of Hollow County, to the point of putting their lives before hers. Everyone is of course free to decide for themselves if they like her or not, or whether she is a good partner for Arlen, but I think she gets a bum rap.

Leah I have to agree with warming to Renna; she's taken a different approach to magic than Arlen simply because of how each of them grew up. While I might not love how she acts, I find her responses to be quite appropriate for how she grew up and how she believes she needs to behave now. She's real to me because of her personal faults. I don't love her character, but I understand what formed her, and being a reader with more insight into her past than her fellow fictional associates, I greatly appreciate her. Although, that opinion might change when I find time to read The Skull Throne.. because.. you know, emotions. :)

Leon Niemandt Ironically, I find Renna to be one of my favourite characters. She reminds me of Reva from Anthony Ryan's Raven's Shadow series. I adore strong female characters in books like Vin from Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series. What I like about Renna is that she doesn't care if she is likable or not. She doesn't care what people think of her or if she's popular. She is headstrong, stubborn and reckless, all the things a girl is not supposed to be. And she doesn't care about that either. What she cares about is kicking demon ass (and maybe a little bit about Arlen :) ) and for that, she has all my respect and admiration.
