I would recommend the "Harper Connelly" series by Charlaine Harris. They also have an intriguing female main character with a special gift. I read the Sookie Stackhouse books and Harper Connelly books, and they both stimulated my interests.
The Aurora Teagarden books were AMAZING! While they do not have any supernatural elements, they are great fun mysteries!
I second the Harper Connelly recommendation. I think I even like it better than Sookie. If some of your reasons for loving it are strong female protagonist, fantasy, romance and complicated relationships, you'll like Harper just as well. And the ending is mind-blowing.
