Hi, Betsy. Did you wind up finishing Fates and Furies? I did but I still didn't like the voice or the characters. Strong writing throughout but an unappealing book... for me.
Hi Denise, I did finish Fates and Furies. I have to say, the ending grabbed me. I started thinking about her voice for Lotto-in the end it seems as though he was somewhat in a fog about a lot of things in his life and the disjointed sentences were like random thoughts. I found Mathilde's story heartbreaking-made me think about not matter how much you think you know someone, you may not. Also thought about the quote "You don't see things the way they really are, you see things the way you are.". Still struggle that I had to work so hard to read this, though!
Glad it wasn't just me who didn't like the writing style. I heard great things about this book but I just couldn't get through it. I gave up after 4 chapters.
I hated this book more than any book I've read. I am so mad. I am drawn to any opportunity to bad mouth it.
I'm listening to the audio book and I'm starting to have trouble continuing, but maybe I'll try to make it to the 2nd part, I must be close! He's describing the 20th year of their marriage now. My commute is long so I can usually tolerate a little intellectual indigestion but, I'm starting to get angry at this book, the writing is excellent and just when I think I'm going to bail I hit some prose that makes me smile....
