Richard Ferguson Good morning. I am almost through with rereading your book and it has reminded me how much I value Taiwan and its people. When a young student, we could not go to the PRC so Taiwan was where we went to study Chinese. The Taiwanese people welcomed us with open arms and made our stay so enriching. Those were the days of the Gang of Four and Deng's early rise. The president of Taiwan was Jiang Jieshi's son Jingquo. I will happily change my review to reflect the true value of your book. This is not a quid pro quo, but a recognition of how much you have thought about this issue, and the hours of research you have dedicated to it. One question: Do you feel the U.S. has an obligation to protect Taiwan (morally as well as politically)?
