I am a member of Wild Ones, a national not-for-profit organization that advocates for the use of native plants in landscaping, prairie restoration, plant rescues, etc. The membership of this group, and others who attend our meetings and events, have other overlapping interests, including restoring the populations of pollinators, birding, permaculture, and ecology in general. More and more people around the country are raising monarchs, some having much more sophisticated set-ups and releasing hundreds of butterflies each year. In my two years of doing this, I've had only a couple of dozen so far, but I have a more limited space. I hope to expand it next year. We have also created a lot of habitat in the area that supports monarchs and other migratory species.
Your oyster repopulation efforts sound very similar. I love hearing about rivers that are being restored to health through projects like yours, and I agree that it feels good to be at least a little part of the solution.

You raise monarchs! I had no idea individuals raised them. Are you part of a program to help restore the population or are you doing this on your own. I'd love to hear more. I volunteer with repopulating oysters in the Chesapeake Bay and nearby rivers. Love being part of the solution... not just adding to the problem.
Take care,
Carolyn
